You didn't mention how small or large your indoor area is, so I will assume that you don't live in a mansion but an average size apt or house.
There are many ways to burn up the calories indoors.
TaeBo for example is a great calorie burner. TaeBo works your entire body and since your having fun at the same time, you hardly notice that your working out–however your getting an excellent workout.
You can also run in place. The most effective way is to run in place as fast as you can for 2 minutes, then go slow for 3-4 minutes. Keep repeating this process for 30 minutes and you will find that your heart rate goes up and you definitely sweat allot. Remember to also move your arms as though you were running on the street. After 3 weeks of this you can add hand weights to really burn that fat.
Running up and down stairs will work 2 totally sets of muscles giving you a good workout. As with the running in place add hand weights after a weeks weeks.
Jumping rope will work if you vary your routine. Just jumping rope as quickly as possible for as long as you can won't work as well as learning how to change your movements and add some arm work.
Remember that if you are looking to burn fat along with calories, it's not the intensity of the routine as much as the length. If you go at a moderate pace for 45 minutes you'll burn more fat than at super intense workout for 15 minutes.
If you live in an apartment and your not on the bottom floor you should be considerate of those living below you. Try to workout when their not home and not too early in the morning or late at night. If that is a problem you might consider something like Pilates that doesn't burn as many calories but does tone and shape up flab. Pilates works equally well for men and women and with Pilates you can often start to see results in 2 weeks.
Since you are looking to burn as many calories as possible more-than-likely your heart rate will go up and stay up. Before even thinking about pushing it to the limit you should get a physical check up to make sure that you have no heart issues and are fit enough.

Spinning or rowing burns the most calories, followed by the elliptical trainer
