The pre-pharmacy courses vary based on the pharmacy school you are interested in applying to. For the most part, almost all pharmacy schools will require the basics such as math, biology, chemistry, physics, english, etc. It usually takes a minimum of 2 years to complete them, but the average is about 3 years. Once you finish those courses or almost finished, you can then apply to the pharmacy schools you are interested in and from then they will review your application and transcripts and call you for an interview if they are interested in you. If you do well on the interview and they liked everything else, they will contact you letting you know if you're accepted into their school. Note: Some pharmacy schools, but not all, require the PCAT, which is the Pharmacy College Admissions Test, it's similar to the SAT and ACT to get into college. You will need to score high on the PCAT as well if the pharmacy school you want to apply to requires it. Once accepted, you will then need to complete 4 years of pharmacy courses (3 years classroom and 1 years clinical rotations), however, some schools offer you the degree in 3 years (you will basically have no summer breaks). Once completed, you will earn a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. Once you graduate, you will need to take the NAPLEX and MPJE, which are the national licensing exam and the pharmacy law exam in order to become licensed to practice as a pharmacist. Getting into pharmacology school is very competitive. They only accept a small percentage of the thousands of applicants. You need to keep a high GPA and do very good on the PCAT. After your 2 years for the Associates degree, it takes 3 years to get through school to be a pharmacist.
