The benefits of a positive attitude

Every know and again on this blog I talk about the importance of mental factors. I believe we often underplay the psychological factors of health - the need for us to minimise chronic stress, to have a positive outlook on life.
Here is an interesting story from the BBC
Optimistic women had a 9% lower risk of developing heart disease and a 14% lower risk of dying from any cause after more than eight years of follow-up.
In comparison, cynical women who harboured hostile thoughts about others or were generally mistrusting of others were 16% more likely to die over the same time-scale.
One possibility is that optimists are better at coping with adversity, and might, for example take better care of themselves when they do fall ill.
In the study, the optimistic women exercised more and were leaner than pessimistic peers.
Unhappiness, misery is unhealthy….it is not how things were meant to be.

How do I get a positive attitude.?
Everyday I always think negative thoughts. If I see my friends or people I know I always feel like they are bothered by my presence. Then when I ask them they tell me they’re happy to be around me. Then I just think they are lying so I don’t feel bad.
I always assume the worst possible outcome and if I do something I’ll always think about how to avoid the consequences and think about the worst possible consequence. Rather then try to do something because of the benefits.
I started realizing how stupid these thoughts are and how difficult I made things for myself these past years. The only problem is I don’t know what to replace these thoughts with. I just tell myself don’t think negative and I don’t know what to think about

make a list of every positive thing in your life from having a roof over your head and food to eat, to liking your hair color, and read it every day

If you feel as though you are bothering people…..this may be a sign that you are being too needy….give your friends some space mentally……do noty always seek their approval…..over time they will get sick of this as it is a sign of dependance. the most confident people often are happy with the person they are and do not seek approval from others.
to pull youreself out of this you must daily think of a good thing that happened to you, even if it is something as small as " I saw a squirrel run into a tree and i laughed today" some tricks people do to put themselves in a positive mood is hum a happy song or imagine an opera singer singing in their head…..I know…sounds weird , but it works.
You have to activly try to cancle out these feelings as soon as you get them….when you get one…..combat it by saying or thinking right after with a good thought…..example: You think"gee I look bad today……Right after you think that….scold youreself by thinknig, "no you are not, you look great! you spent a long time on styling your hair….you look great……this sounds like a bi polar thing to do, but after time, you will fool your brain into start thinking more positivly.
do something good for youreself and cancle plans with others so that you can continue this positive ritual…..even if it is something as simpole as working out or pampering youreself one night out of the week. Others will take notice that you are putting youreself first and want to take good actions to make youreself happy……who knows after time, maybe one of your friends will want to join you for your weekly pedicure or whatever! Sometimes people do the whole "Fake happiness till you make it…..or fake it till you make it" this also has worked for many.
