How to Do One Arm Push Ups for 20 Reps
I typically don't make new year's resolutions, but one thing I would love to be able to do is the one arm push up. When I first started lifting the big goal was to bench press 225 pounds for reps (because I thought it looked cool to have two 45 pound plates on each side [...]

How often and how many reps of push-ups should I do?
I can do about 30 push-ups without stopping. How should I break this up into reps and how often should I do it daily?

I would if i were you do 4 or 3 sets of 20 pushups a day. then after you do that for a month, add 5 or 10 to your sets of 20. and so on.
Hope it helped.

You should do your push-ups to failure each set. The idea is not to break your push-ups into smaller bites so you can do more the idea is to work your muscles and stimulate growth and strength and stamina. The way you do that is to push the muscle to the point of failure and then more if you can.
Do a set to failure
then rest a few minutes and do it again.
I’d say 3 - 4 times will get it. Remember the idea is not to do a large number of reps but to make the muscles grow. You may get to where you can do a huge number of push-ups on your first set so you may want to vary your hand placement and speed of doing them. The idea is to make them as hard as possible so your chest grows. Unless you think wearing a t-shirt that tells the world how many push-ups you can do will impress the ladies. Have your little sister or girlfriend sit on your back while you do them if you get to doing too many.
You see, after a while you get to the point of just getting tired from so many reps rather than stimulating growth and gains in strength. That’s why they call it progressive resistance. This is why we add weights to the bench press exercise. If we could get big chest muscles with the little 100 lb barbell for 100 reps we would all do it that way. So in short, it’s not all about how many reps it’s also about how much weight.
You could probably do your push-up thing every three days. If you still feel stiff at three days give it another day. Your body will get used to the work pretty quick and your recovery time will be shorter. Don’t work a sore muscle, it’s still healing and growing. Working it when it hurts could lead to an injury.
YouTube has some push-up gurus on it if you care to check there. Just search Push-up training or something like that.
